Passage 2
One day I announced that I was returning to Korea to study Korean music. Everyone thought I had gone out of my mind. (A)It was bad enough, said my family, that I had chosen music as my profession (B)in the first place. But Asian music! That was unheard of!
I arrived in Seoul late in the year 1959. At first, the road of study was not easy at all. But as the years went by, I became more and more interested in Korean music.
Now it is already 1966, and I am still as fascinated as I was on that night in 1957. Of course, some day I must return to (C)the land of my birth. But I know that I could go on studying for some ten, twenty or even thirty years. That was the way it was with the musicians of old; they would go into the mountains to study for as long as fifty years. When someone told me (D)that five years ago, I did not believe it. Now (E)I do.
