There were millions of war victims on both sides - the losers' side as well as the winners' side. Only by embracing that truth have the countries of Europe been able to unite as a single community. Such is the good that can come from looking to the future while learning from the past.
A genuinely forward-looking approach means transcending a narrow "victim versus aggressor" perspective and shifting the emphasis from criticizing other people and other countries to asking oneself, "What can I do to contribute to the peace and security of the global community and the entire human race?"
