부사절에서의 주어+동사 생략
부사절의 주어가 주절의 주어와 일치하고 동사가 be동사일 경우 「주어+동사」생략 가능
① When (Koreans are) asked "Aren't you coming along?", Korean answer "yes" when they
really can't come.
② When (you are) traveling, you'd better take a map with you.

‘그것이 ~한 이유이다’라는 의미로 why는 앞에 선행사 the reason이 생략된 관계부사. 바로 앞에 나온 문장이 이유이고 why 뒤의 내용이 그에 대한 결과이다.

① That's why "we" is more than natural than "I" to Koreans.
② I failed the exam. That's why I feel depressed now.
as ~ as …
‘as+형용사의 원급+as…'으로 표현되는 동등비교의 부정은 ‘not as(또는 so)+형용사의 원급+as…'로 ‘~만큼 …하지 못한’의 의미
① It's not as common to call others by their first name as it is in many other countries.
② He is not as old as your brother.
【not as ~ as …】문장 내에 부정어가 있는 경우, 앞의 as는 so로 쓸 수 있다.
ex) The second movie was not as good as the first.
even though
‘비록 ~라 하더라도'의 의미로 양보를 나타내며 even if와 바꿔 쓸 수 있다.
① Even though we react this way, we very much appreciate the compliment.
② Even though you do not like it, you must do it.
