4. The History of Ramen

Like an other noodles, ramen noodles were first made in China.  The Chinese

made a noodle-like food as early as 3,000 B.C.  The Chinese love noodles

because they are considered to be a symbol of long life. Ramen noodles are

the Japanese pronunciation of La-mien. As for the modern-style fried ramen,

the Japanese first saw it during the war between China and Japan in 1937.

Chinese soldiers carried fried noodles as emergency food. Fried noodles were

lighter and they could be kept fresh longer. These fried noodles were made

into instant ramen in 1958 by a man called Momofuku Ando. Soon ramen

became popular worldwide.  Each country's ramen noodles reflect their own

tastes for specific flavors. Koreans ramen is usually very hot.  In the U.S,

people like ramen with meat flavors.
